How I got through my first time cannabis grow – a little help from my friends…
The following is a photo montage of my first time cannabis grow with some notes of the grow and results. Tree Donkey Weed Club is bunch of buddies (wife calls us a bunch of idiots) that get together to smoke weed.
We try a lot of different strains available from the different dispensaries.
We get high and talk about how we feel about them and chronicle some with photos. – heh!, chronic-al
Several regular randos of Tree Donkey Weed Club gather throughout the week. We usually set up around a vintage cocktail table arcade game that has been modified to be bar height. There’s an adjacent pub style 4 top for overflow (sometimes we’re all thinking “Weed Club” at the same time).
We pull out the rolling tray, bong and lighter on the table, puff, pass and play arcade games while pondering the intricacies of life -our favorite strains and this first time cannabis grow.
This is the first time I’ve ever grown to fruition. The first time ever curing (never even seen it in person) I think I did very well. Fruitiest smelling bud with a hint of cat piss/skunk in the next room I’ve ever seen…
I’m still smoking on my harvest from my first time cannabis grow. This was a Gorilla Glue Strain from seeds that I found in a drawer that had to have been more than a year old.
Weed Club is what we called it one day.
We planted 6 seeds last Jan 10 2024 and started our indoor grow.
Each week a bunch of stoner buddies would gather to share and smoke the latest score from the dispensary. We all get super high and look at the progress of the grow and say things like “what you need to do” – “what you should have done” – “we always did this” – “what I like to do”…
And I encouraged every bit of it, soaking what I could, interrupting frequently, asking questions multiple times a week during Tree Donkey Weed Club –
Then it was Harvest time somewhere in mid October 2024.
I learned some nasty things during this first time cannabis grow, being outside they started to develop a mold/fungus mid to late September. I observed this while pulling the dead buds and trying to stay ahead of the fungus/mold.
It wasn’t that bad but it was taking out buds one at a time. I decided to harvest when I felt that the loss of bud was starting to impact the yield. It was a call from the hip to pull the plug rather than loose much more bud.
Visual aids play a crucial if subconscious roll in Weed Club.
I was very fortunate to have that many folks willing to share their knowledge with me, in person, puffing. I kept a stocked bar. The club is a large open floor plan with more than 5 flat panel TVs along the walls playing grow videos, farm tours, Cannacribs was always on one, touring a cultivator.
I soaked in as much info as I could from these Weed Club meetings.
Having 6 plants, we tried many of the different tid-bits of knowledge dropped on me during these Tree Donkey Weed Club meetings. The advice/suggestions came from all gamuts of Weed Club members.
Were talking guys from the 80s growing in swamps fighting wildlife, concealing from would-be thieves or even being caught by the man. Other club members have more modern knowledge and experience cultivating in dirt and Hydro.
First time cannabis grow Techniques n such
Some insist on the lolly-pop technique. Others insist on letting the plant naturally shed itself. The old timers are straight salty about not cutting any of the plant – “just let her grow Ferrell dammit!” – “I’m a Farmer, I know things!” – they really do though – lots of knowledge from the farmers.
If you ever get the chance to meet a farmer, his knowledge can be applied even to your closet grow. This is what I’ve come to learn anyway.
During Weed Club meetings there are always several large displays running YouTube grow videos on mute with Closed Captions. We drop a playlist on Spotify and proceed to smoke, shuck n jive.
First time cannabis grow was an unbelievable success!
At the end of the day, applying what knowledge did soak in during countless Weed Club meetings – I think my first cannabis grow came out pretty damn good! -I’m still smoking it, getting a great high, even at the time of this article I’m high on it.
Things I did for the harvest to cure:
I lucked out. The space I dried and cured in kept a natural 40%-50% humidity.
I didn’t quite let them dry to snap when breaking a branch to test for dryness.
The jars only half full with a 62% humidity pack. Cut as much leaf out of the buds as you can. Be vigilant.
Burp the jars DAILY for at least 10 min. When you unscrew the jars I rolled them to loosen the buds that are sticking together. This seemed to let them freshen up and release chlorophyll and moisture, keeping the terpines. This daily process lasted close to 6 weeks, and some longer just because.
That plant looks great for a first grow. Good job! Your trimming looked like it could use some practice but keep on keepin on. Learn the cure.
